Our expertise

It is by working hand in hand with our long-time partner growers
that we have forged the style of our wines

The Bonpas Signature

Above all, it is the expression of the region's emblematic grape variety, Grenache Noir, the cornerstone of the blending of the wines in the range. This multi-faceted grape variety, renowned for its generosity and singular fruitiness, regulates itself naturally over time. The older the vine, the more balanced the load of grapes. Vines that are at least 25 years old are therefore favoured to give Bonpas cuvées their fruity, concentrated character, with a seductive attack on the palate, beautiful richness and soft tannins. The combination of Grenache with other historic grape varieties such as Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, grown on carefully selected terroirs, forges the Bonpas signature.

Old Grenache Noir vines

Our expertise of Grenache has enabled us to identify parcels of old vines in our partner vineyards, guardians of an ancestral heritage.

These proud, robust and majestic vines also benefit from optimum exposure conditions, which have enabled them to meet the challenges of the climate for over half a century. Throughout their life, Grenache vines develop their root system deep in the subsoil (up to 5-6 m) to draw trace elements and water, reaching an older mineral fraction, which enriches the quality of the wines, offering greater finesse and aromatic complexity

and Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Vignes Centenaires’ are thus better able to express the terroir that nurtures them, and to reveal even more of their remarkable personalities.

A conversation with winecrafter Jean-Luc Durand

The viniculturist
“The link between vinification (winemaking) and viticulture, the winecrafter reconciles two inseparable aspects of the winemaking profession: the selection of vines from among our partner growers and the work performed in the winery and cellar.”
Drawing on over 25 years’ experience in the southern Rhône Valley, Jean-Luc Durand is the viniculturist behind the Bonpas signature wines.
His passion for the history of the Bonpas Charterhouse is matched by his appreciation of the evolution of Grenache Noir over the years.”

The Bonpas Signature

Grenache Noir grapes and rounded stones forge the Bonpas identity. Together, they lend the wines ideal tannic balance. The Bonpas style is linked to the age of the vines that are cultivated and selected by our partner growers. Our signature touch is the expression of the grape variety associated with carefully selected terroirs.”

The wines
“It is roundness and complex aromas and flavours that best define the Bonpas cuvées. It is a delicate balance that we work on on a daily basis as this is what constitutes the identity of our wines.”
